Summer Program
“Renewed Mission in the Church”
April 18 – May 24, 2009
“As Church in Asia we choose a renewal of which the author is God, who recreates us anew in the Spirit of his Son. For God in Christ has made us a sacrament of a new humanity, a sign and servant of newness. Heeding the words of St. Paul, we embrace the ethical demand of renewal to discard the old self and move forward to witness to new life in Jesus by selfless love.” (7th FABC Plenary Assembly, Samphran, Thailand, January 3–13, 2000)
This Mission Formation Program is intended for all adult learners who are, and will be engaged in Christian Formation, Social Ministry, Campus Ministry and B.E.C. animation. It seeks to envision a Church dynamically renewed by the Spirit of freshness and faithfulness to God’s mission through Jesus, the Missionary. Specifically, it aims:
1.) To recognize the presence of God, especially in the situation of marginalization, suffering, poverty, violence, injustice and hopelessness.
2.) To engage in dialogical—experiential processes of understanding the theological roots of the Church along with missionary engagement of its culture.
3.) To evolve new methodology of ministering and relating that calls people to faith, hope and love not from the heights of superiority but from the depths of solidarity.
4.) To nurture a spirituality of mission that restores the integrity of God’s creation and dares to cross new frontiers in the form of a servant-church.
